At Dicro City USA we work primarily with dichroic glass. Dichroic glass work is an ancient art form modernized by NASA technology. Di-chroic means two colored, or multicolored. This type of glass transmits light in one main color wavelength of light, & reflects light in at least two other wavelengths. It is common for dichroic glass to appear as 2 or 3 different colors, simultaneously. Dichroic glass is coated with electronically excited metallic particles (like titanium, chromium, zirconium & magnesium) in a vacuum chamber, at elevated temperatures. In our studio, we start with large sheets of glass which we cut into small pieces. These pieces are specially arranged & melted together in a kiln to form our jewelry. Due to variations in the firing process, individual results can never be exactly predicted, so each piece of fused dichroic glass is unique. We buy full sheets of dichroic glass with a variety of patterns and textures,  in a full spectrum of colors.  All of our fine craft and jewelry pieces are hand crafted at Dicro City USA, in Bethlehem, PA, USA.
